10 years ago people mostly paid cash in Kenya. Now there are practically as many mobile money accounts as there are inhabitants. With nearly 50% penetration, Kenya is among the top smartphone users in Africa. And 98% of the internet users do so on their smartphones. WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger are the communication tools of choice.
In this presentation, we’ll talk about the importance of digital in emerging economies, how we struggled to capture the attention of our users with—frankly speaking rather boring—finance content and finally seemed to have found the format that resonates.
